The Funniest Lessons I Have Ever Done.

*Imagine a golf swing that looks like an octopus in a blender. It has more moving parts than you ever   thought existed and it is wild and woolly to say the least.

I had my work cut out here but little did I know that there were some strict guidelines that had to be adhered to if she was to spend money on lessons.

Ok, fair enough, the customer is always right?

“I am desperate for some lessons but you cannot change my golf swing” !

Thank goodness golf is mainly mental and your putting was lousy. (Thanks Mum)

*Some people are really just not suited to golf are have found themselves in a position where mum and dad want it more than they do.

I always remember a young chap who after a handful of lessons still thought it was hilarious to hit the ball so far off the heel or hozel that it travelled backwards between his legs.

The blinds on a possible glittering career had to be pulled when his club kept getting caught up in the driving mat on the downswing. The back of the mat measured nearly 3 feet behind the ball.

The “potential analysis “ for mum and dad suggested lawn bowls.

*One of the more challenging lessons was the gentleman who had a reverse grip, played off a 4 handicap and was struggling with consistency.

Forget changing the grip, it is not going to happen.

Having never hit a ball this way before, I spent an hour or so hitting balls with a reverse grip so I could ascertain what the natural deficiencies would be and what areas could be worked on.

Lessons all round on that day.

*After only a year into my role as a club professional I had a lesson booked by one of our more senior golfers. This particular lady in her 70’s played competitive tennis, bowls and golf amongst other things.

Her golf game was sound but there was a serious issue she needed help with.

After playing a game with the ladies club champion who was half her age it became apparent that there was a key area that needed fixing.

Forget the score, the poor chipping technique, the lousy putting: she wanted to know how to hit the ball as far as the champion did.

If it was purely practice and good technique, she had decided to devote her energies into bombing it past our ladies champion.
