It does not matter what sport you are interested in, sports are littered with people who would have, could have and should have.

They are generally the ones with more natural talent in their little finger than you and I could ever wish for.golf talent

They are also the ones who seemed to think that success was nothing more than a mere formality. Hard work was replaced by the sounds of their own trumpet and the belief that natural talent would get them through.

Golf is no different when it comes to wasted talents and the never ending list of under achievers.

The problem with naturally gifted personal is that the gap between themselves and those that have very little natural talent has been bridged by guts, honesty, hard work and a dream they will never take for granted.

I remember watching a pair of twins during their apprenticeships to become professional golfers. One of the boys was terrifically gifted and things used to happen for him without very little effort.

The brother was left at the back of the queue when it came to natural talent but leap frogged everyone when it came to shear tenacity and willingness to succeed.

He was going to follow and beat his brother if it was the last thing he did.

Which brother do you think it was getting up at 5am in the pitch darkness in readiness to hit balls on a cold, deserted oval before starting work at 7am?

The answer is that it was the same person that was back hitting balls until dark and chipping balls into a basket with the street lights the only form of illumination.

Blisters, blood, sweat and tears were part of the price that he was willing to pay to get where he wanted to go.

Long story short, both boys graduated and both boys have forged long and established careers within the professional golfing industry.

It would have been a terrific sight to see the results if the naturally gifted lad had dedicated himself even half as much as his sibling.

The moral to the story is that “Hard Work Beats when Talent Does Not Work Hard”.
